Congratulations Olivia R, the WINNER of our Organix Grain-Free Dog Food Giveaway!
Dog Food— complete and balanced nutrition, natural, organic, grain free, hypoallergenic, holistic, weight control formula, wet vs. dry — It’s enough to make your head spin. I thought cat food options were over the top. Walking down the dog food aisle of the grocery store or big box pet store is like walking down the cereal aisle with a child. At least, our dogs can’t choose their food. Wait, they can. Well not audibly, but they can refuse to eat what you bring home.
At almost ten months old now, it’s about time for me to transition my 60+ pound Baylie Dog from puppy chow to adult dog food. My first thought was, why can’t I keep feeding her puppy chow at ten months old. She still loves every last bite of it; all six cups a day. Yes, I feed her two cups three times a day. She’s a growing 6X kinda girl; big-boned but with no obesity issues. According to Cesar Millan, the Dog Whisperer, “Puppy food is very high in calories and nutritional supplements, so feeding it too long to a mature dog can result in obesity and orthopedic problems.” OK, I get it now. Continuing to feed puppy formula to your mature dog is the equivalent of feeding your six-year-old baby food!
First and foremost in my selection of dog food for Baylie Dog is choosing what agrees with her digestive system, as sometimes even a change in chew sticks can upset her tummy. I also knew I wanted a dog food that is grain-free and provides her with optimal nutritional value.
Our friends at PetFoodDirect.com sent Baylie a sample of Castor and Pollux Natural Petworks’ Organix Grain-Free Adult Dog Food to try. Of course, I did my reasearch and discovered that its #1 ingredient is organic free-range chicken and the ingredients are produced without chemical pesticides, synthetic fertilizers, artificial preservatives, added growth hormones or antibiotics, and it is made in the USA. They manufacture a wide variety of canine and feline wet and dry foods. Baylie loves it and I’m happy because it is easy on her digestion with no upset tummy, and it meets her nutritional requirements. However, I transitioned slowly; by first mixing it in equal parts with her puppy chow before completely changing her to the Organix Grain-Free Adult dog food diet, as a drastic change in a pet’s diet can cause gastrointestinal issues. The nice folks at Organix have given us a 5.25 lb bag of Organix Grain-Free Adult Dog Food to give away to one of BaylieDog’s followers.
