ThunderShirt™ Review and Giveaway

how-thundershirt-work-dog-catMany of us have pets that suffer with some form of anxiety. Experts say canine anxiety falls into three categories; noise anxiety, separation anxiety and social anxiety.  Canine anxiety has a myriad of symptoms from barking, pacing and  panting, hiding, climbing  on you for safety, and the list goes on.

We all react to loud noises, but some dogs interpret those noises as a major danger and their flee mechanism kicks into gear.  Spring is here and that means thunderstorms that may set off your dog’s anxiety.

Car ride with Ella

Sitting on Ella During Car Ride

It’s easy for me to tell when Baylie is feeling anxious or threatened because she either leans against me or will try to get as much of her ninety pound body in my lap as possible.  If I put my arm around her or she can feel my presence by leaning against my legs, then she’s okay. I guess it’s the same as a  gentle hug; reassuring her I’m there to protect her. Baylie is very uneasy during trips in the car. Her anxiety  causes her to pant and shake. She will even turn down treats when she’s riding which is a sure sign of her stress level.  If there is a passenger in the back seat, she will eventually end up in their lap to get the sense of security she is needing.

Baylie Modeling her XL ThunderShirt

We were super excited when the nice folks at ThunderShirt™ sent us a ThunderShirt™ for dogs,  hoping that the ThunderShirt™ would alleviate some of Baylie’s stress on car rides.  It really worked!  She was much more calm as she walked from the house to the suv and it reduced enough of Baylie’s stress for her to enjoy the scenery during the ride.  The ThunderShirt™ was Baylie’s alternative to my reassuring touch. The lightweight but durable design was easy to put on. It wraps around your dog easily without having to contort their bodies through neck and arm holes. Plus, it’s super stylish.

Here’s how the ThunderShirt™ works:

ThunderShirt™ uses gentle hugging to calm your dog or cat. With its patented design. ThunderShirt’s gentle, constant pressure has a dramatic calming effect for most    dogs and cats if they are anxious, fearful or over excited. Based on surveys completed  by over two thousand customers, over 80% of dogs and cats show significant improvement  in symptoms when using ThunderShirt™.  ThunderShirt™ is recommended by thousands of veterinarians  and trainers. Experts believe that pressure has a calming effect on   the nervous system, possibly by releasing calming  endorphins. Using  pressure to relieve anxiety in people and animals has been a common practice for  years.

The folks at ThunderShirt™ were kind to offer a ThunderShirt™ to one of our lucky readers.  The winner will have a choice of  either a cat or dog ThunderShirt™.

My poor boy Bo could really benefit from the Thundershirt. He is truly terrfied of the weather we have here in Co….and with the safety of winter passing now, and the thunderstorms we’ll have soon… he would be a great candidate. He is even terrfied of the noise we make in the garage, like the air compressor. It breaks my heart to have him sitting the in bedroom closet pantning in fear. Thank you for the awesome chance.

    • Aww, poor Bo! Bless his heart! Thanks for entering and good luck! BTW, my mom visits Colorado often.

  • @janie189

Yes, we all have our fingers and paws crossed to help Mister Bo! We hate to see him so upset — Mom says he’s her sensitive mommas boy! Next time your mom is here, let us know! We’d love to meet her, and maybe introduce her to Penelope the Hedgehog as well!

My Molly could use a thunder shirt. She has separation anxiety. She will start whining and barking as soon as I am out of sight. She will ignore her Kong which I give her before I leave because she is too busy freaking out. I plan to work on some training with her to help her with it, but a Thundershirt would be a good thing to have for times that I have to leave quickly.

    • Aww, give sweet Molly a hug from Baylie and me. Thanks for entering and good luck!

I have a terrier mix dog, named Ella, who I would love to win a ThunderShirt for. Ella is scared of the phone ringing, the washer and dryer going, planes flying by and so much more. She shakes and hides and it is so sad. I would love to see if the ThunderShirt would help with this.

    • Bless little Ella’s heart! Have you tried some of the calming sprays? Thank you for entering and good luck to you and Ella!

      • Shelley P

TY! No, I haven’t. Have any recommendations? Just this week, I had the window open and some cards flew off the mantel well that sent Ella running. Now she shakes & hides every time I open a window 🙁
