No, this is not a chair named after my Baylie; but with a different variation of spelling. It is a specially built doggie high chair of sorts first invented for a dog named Bailey. Bailey was born with Congenital Megaesophagus and went on to live a long and happy life with the aid of his chair. The chair is a life-changing invention created especially for dogs who suffer with Canine Megaesophagus; a condition that is difficult to diagnose and with few medical options. The condition has been reported in humans, dogs, cats, ferrets and other animals.
My name is Baylie and I’m a Great Pyrenees and Border Collie mix. My mom rescued me from an awful situation when I was 5-6 weeks old. I was found by a nice man who scooped me up when my canine mom dropped me from her mouth while running. What made it super scary was we were running along the side of a busy highway and there was a bad dog chasing us. My canine mom tried her best to hold on to me really tight, but I was just too heavy. But that’s okay, she did the best she could. A nice man driving along in his truck saw her drop me, stopped his truck and scooped me up really fast so the mean dog couldn’t get me. He tried to help my canine mom too, but she ran. The nice man couldn’t keep me so he took me to where my human mom works to see if anyone would be willing to take me in.

When the nice folks at CritterZone Air Naturalizer called to ask if we would like to try their product, we jumped right on it. What is CritterZone you ask? It’s a compact and powerful device that eradicates pet and other household odors from the air. We pet owners are well aware of the never-ending battle with odors and allergens that come with owning a pet. The Air Naturalization process is a chemical-free, filterless, natured inspired technology. By producing a natural charged flow to the air, CritterZone gives indoor air the same energy the sun gives outdoor air to clean itself.

As cat parents, we all know that urine pH can be used to provide information concerning the health of our felines. Many health problems are accompanied by a change in urinary pH from a normal to a high (acidic) or low (alkaline) condition.
Our friends at PetFoodDirect.com introduced us to LifeMate Scoopable Cat Litter w/ pH Health Alert by Petsell. LifeMate is the first scoopable cat litter that contains a pH indicator that will change color to identify common health problems BEFORE symptoms appear. It is not designed to provide a diagnosis for health problems; only as a possible early indication. When you see a change in the urine pH you should monitor your cat’s health more closely and consult your local veterinarian.
Well, after two days of relentless attacks by mom and dad mockingbirds, I can finally put away the hat that was protecting my noggin from the temperamental birds. It appears there is no need for mom and dad to protect their cute little fledglings and have moved on.. I’m free to go about my business of patrolling the back yard!
If you live in the Southeast where we have had relentless rain throughout the entire Fourth of July holiday, most likely, you have a prolific crop of these growing on your lawn. I have never given them much thought, that is, until Baylie Dog joined the family. Even though she will eat most anything she can fit into her mouth, she hasn’t shown much interest in the fungi. Nevertheless, when I see any sprout, and they can do so in a matter of hours, I quickly pull them up just in case her taste for mushrooms may have changed.
Mushroom poisoning (also known as mycetism) refers to harmful effects from ingestion of toxic substances present in a mushroom. These symptoms can vary from slight gastrointestinal discomfort to death. The toxins present are secondary metabolites produced in specific biochemical pathways in the fungal cells.
Happy Fourth of July! Remember to keep your pets safe during firecracker “season”. More pets are lost during this time of year than any other. If possible, bring your pups and kitties indoors. It’s common for dogs to escape from backyards due to fear of fireworks, so if bringing your pets indoors is not an option, please make sure they are either microchipped or wearing their pet ID tags.
We at Baylie Dog consider every month “Adopt a Cat Month” even though the month of June is the “official” campaign. We love to see all animals get a second chance for a loving home. After all, my Baylie Dog was a canine rescue and adopted by me after she was found on a rural road and covered in fleas, ticks and lice; all four pounds of her. I also adopted my cat, Smoki, over 12 years ago from a family with a litter of kittens; a three-hour drive one away. My only regret is that I didn’t adopt two from the litter. I think cats miss that bond established by having another cat share their domain. However, it is so much easier for us and less stressful for the cats to bring two kittens or two shelter buddies into a home rather than to introduce adult cats that are not well matched. As expected, there will be a jockeying back and forth to establish dominance. But, it can be accomplished; depending on many factors including the temperament of both cats. As a senior cat, I’m certain my cat, Smoki, would not adjust or tolerate another cat sharing her home.
