We at Baylie Dog consider every month “Adopt a Cat Month” even though the month of June is the “official” campaign. We love to see all animals get a second chance for a loving home. After all, my Baylie Dog was a canine rescue and adopted by me after she was found on a rural road and covered in fleas, ticks and lice; all four pounds of her. I also adopted my cat, Smoki, over 12 years ago from a family with a litter of kittens; a three-hour drive one away. My only regret is that I didn’t adopt two from the litter. I think cats miss that bond established by having another cat share their domain. However, it is so much easier for us and less stressful for the cats to bring two kittens or two shelter buddies into a home rather than to introduce adult cats that are not well matched. As expected, there will be a jockeying back and forth to establish dominance. But, it can be accomplished; depending on many factors including the temperament of both cats. As a senior cat, I’m certain my cat, Smoki, would not adjust or tolerate another cat sharing her home.
We at BaylieDog.com are a feline friendly, canine friendly community of like pet lovers. In fact, we love all God’s creatures. You will never see a request from Baylie Dog for personal donations; “chip-ins”, “contribute to” links or any type of request solely for the purpose of self-promotion or personal gain. That is not our mission statement. We are not a profit-driven community. It is also not our mission to ask you to cast a vote for us in order to place a trophy on our mantle; as public accolades are not our goal or purpose unless your vote has potential for allowing us to make a donation to a named shelter or rescue organization. Even though we have no plans to offer any Baylie Dog products in the near future, we will never solicit you to purchase any products related to Baylie Dog with the disclaimer that a “portion” of your donations will go to charity “X” without full disclosure and transparency of that percentage of disbursement.
Baylie Dog was created a little over a year ago when this author rescued a feisty little puppy who stole her heart. The reason for creating Baylie Dog’s presence on social media was for the sole purpose of connecting with like-minded pet lovers in order to share knowledge of pet related issues and enjoy a little silliness to help us through the day; not for personal financial gain.
On BaylieDog.com and Facebook page, we are fortunate to have the opportunity to offer product giveaways to our readers that have been graciously donated by our affiliates and peers in the pet industry. This is our way of showing our gratitude to you; our loyal readers in our small community of Baylie Dog. It warms our hearts to be given the opportunity to do so. Our only regret is that we cannot offer more in these difficult economic times as we know, firsthand, the ever-increasing costs involved in vetting and providing quality, nutritional food for our four-legged family members. If we make just one reader smile or enrich their day through a post, then we have accomplished our goal for the day. If we provide a brief respite to someone from the trials of their every day life for just a moment by means of one of Baylie’s silly photo’s, then we have met our expectations.
Even though we are a small community, we feel we can make a difference. If we lose sight of our purpose, as has been the case with so many communities, we encourage you to reach out to us. From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you for following our journey and hope you will stick around. I hope we have provided you with as much joy as you have given us.
—-For it is giving that we receive—-
Now that hurricane season is bearing down on us here along the Gulf Coast, we begin to talk preparedness. That means not only do we humans need to batten down the hatches, we need to think about our four-legged family members as well. Pet owners should have an emergency plan for their pets.
More than 358 million pets reside in 63 percent of American households. According to a Zogby International poll, 61 percent of pet owners will not evacuate if they cannot bring their pets with them. However, more and more hotels are becoming pet friendly. And, in disaster situations, others will relax their no pets allowed policy.
Our friends at PetsWeekly™ were so kind to provide us with a new liquid vitamin drink supplement product that’s 100 percent natural called LICKS® for Dogs Signature Joint+Heart formula. It is packed with Omega 3 fatty acids, vegetarian glucosamine, and vitamin E and is made in the USA. It integrates seamlessly with your dog’s food or water to help ensure he/she receives the daily supplements needed to maintain heart and joint health. Since Baylie has had some joint problems, I tried the “Joint and Heart Formula” in her water thinking she would probably turn up her nose and walk away. Being roasted chicken flavor, I should have known that she would love it. In fact, she liked it so much she lapped up an entire bowl of water. I had equal success when I mixed it with her chow.
Our friends at Pet360 shared with us this cute infographic with the goal of raising awareness of pet foster programs and to encourage pet lovers to consider fostering shelter pets. As you know, my Baylie Dog was a rescue but not in the normal sense of the term. Baylie was a rescue that I had all intentions of finding a forever home after she came into my life the day she was found on the side of the road. I don’t call her a “foster flop” but rather a foster miracle. I decided to cease my search for that special family to give her a home because she was home! Who was I kidding, I had fallen in love with this cute little four-pound ball of fur.
Saint Patrick’s Day or the Feast of Saint Patrick is a cultural and religious holiday celebrated on 17 March and is named after Saint Patrick; the most commonly recognized of the patron saints of Ireland. It’s a day Christians attend church services and the Lenten restrictions of fasting and penitence in preparation for Easter are lifted for the day.
My mom is Irish, but then again, isn’t everyone on St. Patrick’s Day; the day everyone and everything takes on somewhat of a green hue. In my town, even the court square fountain water is dyed green. So I knew it was inevitable; true to tradition, mom would most surely come up with something green for me to wear today.
Baylie here. It was a beautiful day today with temperatures in the low 70’s; perfect day for some quality time with my human at the dog park. My human thinks that it’s all about me when it comes to dog parks, but I’ll let you in on a little secret. She needs the exercise as much as I.
We, at BaylieDog.com, are a feline and canine friendly community. Even though we go on and on and on with relentless dog talk, we love all things CAT! Seems cats have taken over social media and now have their sights clearly set on Instagram where there are bookoodles of cute kitty pics.
Here is one of the cuties I found at #cats_of_Instagram. His name is Sam. He does appear to have a permanent surprised look about him with the Groucho Marx eyebrows but that’s what makes him so irresistible! He is oh so cute, don’t you think? Seems he has become the king of Instagram; that is, the cat world of Instagram with over 2,500 followers. You can check out his photos on Instagram as #samhaseyebrows. And, if you want your fix of cute cats, just pop on over to Instagram and check out #cats_of_Instagram
