Nothing is more gratifying than cooking for our family. The same goes for making special treats for our four-legged family members. I began making homemade treats for Baylie when she was a puppy. Homemade treats give me the assurance of knowing that … Continue reading
Some of the coldest weather in years is hitting the eastern half of the nation as far south as Alabama and Florida. Many areas will see epic snowfall and life-threatening temperatures. Even here in the deep South, we are going to see temps breaking record lows. In my area, the mercury will fall to 11 degrees tomorrow night with a wind chill of -5 degrees.
Research suggests that a mere 8% of New Year’s goals are met. I admit, Baylie and I fell short in keeping our 2014 New Year’s resolutions. After all, Baylie was a naïve pup when she posted her first resolutions for the New Year and for myself, I offer no excuses other than it’s been a trying year with many unexpected challenges.
Back and White Sunday blog hop with Sugar Golden Woofs and many more of my pals to celebrate the last weekend of Year 2014!
Nothing like the feeling of peace, tranquility and warmth of sitting in front of a roaring fire sipping your favorite beverage before retiring for the evening. With the first really cold weather of the season bearing down on us, folks are cranking up the fireplace for the first time of the season.

Three years ago; a special day
A tiny, dirty, stray with big brown eyes came my way
Great Pyrenees, the vet said is her breed
How could I care for a dog that will grow like a weed
I took her in to find her a home
But found with each passing day she warmed my soul
It didn’t take long for me to know
For here she will stay in her forever home
Long gone are the days of a spotless house
Dog toys and fur are scattered about
Puppy nose smudged windows are now the norm
But that’s okay for it’s Baylie’s home
No longer is the sofa a place to recline
Baylie has proclaimed; “for it is mine”
She greets me each morning with her happy smile
And showers me with kisses in true Baylie style
By my side she stays, when I’m feeling bad
And seems to know when I am sad
She has proclaimed a truce with Smoki the Cat
For she recognizes the boss in this habitat
Three squares a day, a nice warm bed in which to rest
A promise of love and devotion is all she requests
For it is I who was lucky on that cold January day
When Baylie came into my life to stay

Baylie here. This weekend, all across the country, bragging rights are earned on the college gridiron. I’m talking about college football rivalries on the weekend following Thanksgiving for you doggies who don’t follow college football. Historic, proximity-based rivalries are always renewed over Thanksgiving weekend. It’s when the humans get together to eat copious amounts of junk food and get really loud and obnoxious. I live in the South and in the South, people are down right fanatical when it comes to college football; most notably, the match-up between the University of Alabama Crimson Tide and the Auburn University Tigers in the Iron Bowl. Silly me, I thought they were referring to my metal food bowl when I heard “Iron Bowl“; that is, until the humans explained.
