2015-PetObesityAwareness

Today is National Pet Obesity Awareness Day.  According to the Association for Pet Obesity Prevention, 57.9% of cats and 52.7% of dogs are overweight or obese.

Obesity is the number one health threat pets face, and the most important pet health decision owners make each day is what and how much they feed.

Happy Fourth of July!

Happy Fourth of July

Happy Fourth of July!  Remember to keep your pets safe during firecracker “season”.  More pets  are lost during this time of year than any other.  If possible, bring your pups and kitties indoors.  It’s common for dogs to escape from backyards due to fear of fireworks, so if bringing your pets indoors is not an option, please make sure they are microchipped and wearing their pet ID tags.

Book Review & Giveaway – We Are All Different And We Are All Right”

IMG_5366

It all began with a cat; but not your average cat.  When Elisabeth Norman Gardner rescued Frankie the 30lb. Cat,  he weighed in at a whopping 35 pounds.  It wasn’t until he lost down to 30 pounds did Elisabeth create his Facebook Page. Frankie’s rescue story began in Mobile, Alabama where he was surrendered, at 11 years old and morbidly obese, so his family could travel in their RV.  Elisabeth, through Have a Heart Rescue in Birmingham, Alabama, drove over three hours to Mobile, Alabama to rescue Frankie.

Why Pet Gates Make Sense In A #Bipetual Home

Smoki & Baylie at an Impasse

Two items I vowed never to have in our bipetual home; 1) doggie potty pads,  and 2) a pet gate.   Potty pads were never necessary since Baylie was so easy to potty train, but   I succumbed to the use of a pet gate.  Why now,  you ask, even though Baylie is past her rambunctious puppy stage? The foremost reason we decided to consider using a pet gate was not so much to corral Baylie,  but rather to provide Smoki some degree of privacy without shutting her off from the other rooms of the house.

PL360 Natural Products for Your Pet and Home – Review & Giveaway

logofinal2

Announced at the recent Global Pet Expo and with a shared focus on natural pet care, PawGanics and Pet Labs 360 merged to create a unified pet health and wellness brand; PL360.  PL360 is a pet health and wellness company that creates safe and effective natural solutions for pet owners including grooming and cleanup products, as well as pet health supplements. We have long been a consumer of PawGanics products and regularly use  natural products that are free of the harsh chemicals like ammonia and bleach.

We hear the words “green”, “organic” and “natural” a lot these days but what does it all really mean? Do we have to be a chemist to clean our home in a safe, natural, non-toxic way? The answer is no.  We just need a little help from brands we trust to help us figure it out.

Who Will Care For Your Pet(s) When You are Sick? Tips For Planning Ahead

10615996_709204889155712_6589377611246458268_n

If you have a large extended family, caring for your pet(s) while you are sick or hospitalized, most likely, will not be an issue.  For approximately 96 million singles in the U.S., it causes great concern.   I was pleasantly surprised by one of the questions posed to me by the admitting hospitalist during my last hospital stay:  “Do you have pets at home that depend on you for their care?” This simple question speaks volumes in how we, as a society, see our pets within the family unit.   I was blown away and quickly answered:  “Yes, I do; one 85 pound dog and a cat“.  I knew I liked this doctor right away and was tempted to pull out my IPhone to show him snapshots, but I figured that would be a bit over the top.

How Pet Odor Could Hinder The Marketability Of Your Home

Final

When we step into a home, one of the first things we often notice is the smell. Does it smell new or clean?  Does it pass the smell test?

We all love our pets like family but when it comes time to sell our home, there are some important things pet owners need to consider to prevent our pet(s) from derailing the sale of our home.  If you have considered putting your home on the market, but are not sure how to handle pet odors that have accumulated after years of caring for your four-legged friends, we may be able to help.  We can all relate. We love our pets and they take priority, but someone else may not and that can impact our bottom line when selling our home.

Flexi® Vario Review and Giveaway – The New Generation of Retractable Leashes

10349214_855378667848254_2449059078506716208_n

There’s a new generation of retractable leashes recently announced at Global Pet Expo 2015.  The Flexi® VARIO retractable leash variably adjusts to the wants and needs of every dog owner.   We understand that not everyone is a fan of retractable leashes, however,  we believe there is a time and place for using a retractable leash when you would like to give your dog a little more freedom.  It all boils down to being a responsible pet parent.  If you go to the vet, groomer or any crowded place where you should not give your dog that extra freedom, the leash should be fully retracted.

Established in 1973,  Flexi® has spent over 40 years developing a high-tech product that makes it a leader in the market.
