A Poem For Baylie

Three years ago; a special day

A tiny, dirty, stray with big brown eyes came my way

Great Pyrenees, the vet said is her breed

How could I care for a dog that will grow like a weed

I took her in to find her a home

But found with each passing day she warmed my soul

It didn’t take long for me to know

For here she will stay in her forever home

Long gone are the days of a spotless house

Dog toys and fur are scattered about

Puppy nose smudged windows are now the norm

But that’s okay for it’s  Baylie’s  home

No longer is the sofa a place to recline

Baylie has proclaimed; “for it is mine”

She greets me each morning with her happy smile

And showers me with kisses in true Baylie style

By my side she stays, when I’m feeling bad

And seems to know when I am sad

She has proclaimed a truce with Smoki the Cat

For she recognizes the boss in this habitat

Three squares a day, a nice warm bed in which to rest

A promise of love and devotion is all she requests

For it is I who was lucky on that cold January day

When Baylie came into my life to stay
